FREE ENTRY

~ 90 MINUTES

dansbana, lasipalatsi SQUARE

Schedule:

Monday 3 August 5 pm

DELYXX (FIN) – DECADANCE

WANT TO PARTY?!?!!

For one evening only, dansbana dissolves into a decadent dancefloor hosted and performed by the chaotic cabaret collective DeLyxx.

These hot alter-egos are summoning their unhinged, delusional, sloppy, over-dramatic, euphoric selves who are not afraid to take space, making an arthouse into the open air party of the summer, no bouncers allowed.

DECADANCE is an occupation.

DECADANCE is emancipation.

DECADANCE is released temptation.

DECADANCE is everything you didn’t know you needed.

But now you do.

You’re on the guestlist.

DeLyxx cabaret collective

DeLyxx is a cabaret collective created and performed by actors Antonia Atarah, Sara-Maria Pirhonen and a guest DJ. Behind the curtains is costume designer Meri Craig whose designs and visual compositions are always tailored to the event in question. Atarah and Pirhonen are graduates of the University of the Arts Helsinki, and Craig is a graduate of Aalto University.

Their performances explore hyper/alter-ego, audience contact, drag and taking and giving space. The performances are known for their tackyness and playfulness and are heavily influenced by pop and club culture, advertisement and show aesthetics, which they then with pleasure alter and distort. The group was founded in 2022 and they have been performing in various events and parties. DeLyxx can’t wait to take over the summery inner yard of Lasipalatsi Square!

Stay tuned for more..

Sara-Maria Pirhonen

Sara-Maria Pirhonen is an actor, dancer, and performer based in Helsinki. She holds a Master’s degree from the Theatre Academy’s Acting Programme, where she also studied musical theatre. Prior to her acting studies, Sara-Maria graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Contemporary Dance and Pedagogy from Stockholm University of the Arts. Pirhonen has worked extensively in the performing arts, thriving in collaborative processes, interdisciplinary practices across different art forms, and constantly seeking new challenges in acting and performance. She has been involved in productions ranging from traditional spoken theatre to more experimental contemporary productions. For her, theatre is a space where curiosity, warmth, and empathy can give rise to unprecedented, transformative, and bold works. She has performed, among others, at Lilla Teatern at Helsinki City Theatre, Lahti City Theatre, Viirus Theatre, and previously at Amos Rex. Above all, Pirhonen is driven by the desire to work with artists and projects that courageously and open-mindedly explore both contemporary and timeless themes in their work.

Antonia Atarah

Antonia Atarah is a Ghanaian-Finnish actor, performer with a Master’s degree from the Theatre Academy’s acting program, along with additional studies in musical theatre, drama pedagogy and practical training in Accra, Ghana. In addition to her debut leading role in Ronja at Svenska Teatern Atarah has worked across diverse performing art forms, methods, and collectives in Finland, Germany, Ghana and Tanzania. She has explored decolonial and feministic performing approaches in pieces such as Armageddon (Sara Melleri, Sonya Lindfors, Elina Pirinen) and ONE DROP (Sonya Lindfors). Atarah believes in the collective and making art accessible. In her work she aims to broaden the perception and task of “the actor” by finding diversity within that role.

Costume design: Meri Craig

Meri Craig (she/they) is interested in the diverse forms of performing arts and the embodied nature of the medium. In their work, Meri places particular emphasis on the relationship between costume and the (performing) body, and on the ways this symbiosis can enrich and shape a work. They hold both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree with a major in Costume Design.

DJ and sound design: Malin Nyqvist
