Dansbana! Amos Rex: Grooves with Ama and Patricia
FREE ENTRY
~ 75 min
dansbana, lasipalatsi square
Schedule:
Monday 29 June 5 pm
A workshop open to everyone, led by Ama Kyei, invites participants to go through a “fishpond” exercise. In the session, participants are encouraged to stand close together and groove to the rhythm of the dancer in front of them. The rhythm and direction of the groove gradually change, and, like fish moving together in a group, we find a shared pulse that evolves throughout the 75-minute dance session. The workshop is danced to house music, with the DJ set by Patricia Carlitos.
Ama Kyei’s dance background comes from house dance and traditional West African styles. The workshop is based on an exercise Kyei learned in Ghana, which they have adapted into their own practice.
