In Studio Rex, Finnish artist Enni-Kukka Tuomala (b. 1987), creates the exhibition Expanding Empathies, an experimental space for encounters, spoken and unspoken connection and self-contemplation.

Tuomala, who lives in London, has created a participatory installation as a centerpiece. The Empathy Echo Chamber invites two people, strangers to each other, to enter into a shared and guided experience. This intimate moment, dedicated to just these two people, encourages reflecting on these shared experiences.

In the summer of 2021, the installation was first exhibited at the London Design Biennale.

In the spring of 2025, it can be experienced as part of Tuomala’s new body of work in Helsinki. Expanding Empathies is the artist’s first solo exhibition in Finland. It’s on view at Amos Rex 2 April – 31 August 2025.

The exhibition curator is Anastasia Isakova.
